Dow Emini Futures

The dow emini future is half the size of the standard future making it an ideal candidate for the small trader.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was setup in the 19th century. Today it holds the 30 largest companies in the US.

The nominal value of a contract is five times the size of the dow. For example if the dow is currently trading at 12,000 points, the nominal value of the emini future will be $60,000. Every point or tick the dow moves will be worth $5.

This contract provides an alternative to buying stocks in the top 30 companies and to funds that aim to track the dow. There is also the added advantage that can be traded on margin. Current margin requirements for the contract are:

Initial margin: $$2,438
Maintenance margin: $1,950

In recent months the dow has been extremely volatile and has provided many excellent trading opportunities.

The ticker for this contract is: YM
